Weston K-2 Soccer Families,
Thank you to all of the families who took the time to tell us what they want from their Pre-K – 2nd Grade soccer experience. Your feedback had a meaningful impact on the program we’ve designed for Spring 2020.
Below you’ll find an outline of the program, with specific dates and times. You’ll also find a link to register your young player(s).
As always, we want to know what you think. Emails to me at firstname.lastname@example.org are a good way to convey that!!
All grades will play on the same days as in the past, for consistency of planning. Pre-K will move to a 2:30 start on Tuesdays (we explain why below).
Pre-K and Kindergarten sessions will last 1 hour. 1st and 2nd grade sessions will last 1 hour and 15 minutes.
We continue to offer Sunday Game Day for K-2 – many of you told us that this is your only chance to participate in or support your young player’s soccer experience, and that’s important for us to honor. Many thanks to our friends at Weston Youth Lacrosse for helping us schedule Game Day – we’ve done our best to pick times that minimize/eliminate conflict with their games.
2nd graders will play 2 of their Sunday Game Days as Jamborees with nearby towns to prepare them for the BAYS experience in the fall – full 7v7 games under BAYS rules with BAYS referees. We expect to host one Jamboree and travel for the other.
Please note that Sunday Game Day will now require us to have a designated and SafeSport-certified coach for each team – don’t miss your chance to volunteer when you register!! As we described in an earlier note, this is not merely WSC policy, this is a legal requirement. All of our coaches are SafeSport-certified. It’s a bit of work. Our young players are worth it!
Coaches are welcome but not required at the weekday training sessions, but they MUST attend Sunday Game Days; our players CANNOT play on Sunday without a SafeSport-certified coach to take charge of their team.
Players will be assigned to teams.
Players in Kindergarten, 1st & 2nd grades will continue to wear reversible pinnies. Beginning on Monday, February 24 pinnies can be purchased from WeGotSoccer. A link to WeGotSoccer can be found at the end of this letter, and on our website. If you have a serviceable pinnie from another season you may use it and do not have to buy a new one. IF YOU NEED A PINNIE PLEASE ORDER IT BY 11 MARCH TO ENSURE PLENTY OF TIME FOR DELIVERY. Note: Pre-K players do not need a pinnie.
Finally, all of our training sessions will be staffed by coaches from Proformance. Proformance has run our 2nd grade program in recent seasons and has been well received by WSC families. We asked them to serve our whole Pre-K – 2nd Grade program this spring and are thrilled that they accepted the mission. We think you’ll notice the difference and look forward to your feedback.

For Our Pre-K Families
2:30 Start Time - We debated long and hard about the best start time for our families, with the constraint that Proformance, our coaching organization, cannot provide enough coaches to run Pre-K AND 1st Grade on a 3:30 pm start. We recognize that IF you have a child in K-3 there may be some gymnastics involved in managing Pre-K soccer and K-3 pickups/arrivals. We discussed a 1 pm start, but our colleagues and friends at the Rec Department (they ARE our friends!!) are offering their Little Kickers program at…yes, 1 pm. We kept Pre-K on Tuesdays because that is the day that we have consistently offered in recent years and we know that our families plan ahead and value predictable schedules. Board members with young children acknowledged the possible logistical issues but agreed that they were manageable. Please let us know your experiences this spring and know that we have already suggested to Rec that we meet and plan together for future seasons.
We thank you all again for your help in improving the program for your young players, and we hope the outline above is appealing enough to make you want to sign up – to coach and play!!
Here’s the links – registration is open now and closes on 11 March!!
